Embracing the
Learn-through-Play Philosophy

At Wentworth Falls Preschool, we follow the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) principles of Belonging, Being, Becoming, which prioritise play as a fundamental aspect of a child's development. Through play, children have the chance to investigate, uncover, and comprehend the environment they inhabit. Moreover, it fosters their capacity to communicate, envision, and generate ideas, all while enjoying the experience.

ACTIVE CHILD-LED PLAY & LEARNING

At our preschool, we facilitate children's learning through a combination of experiences, interests, and routines. We foster a sense of responsibility in the children by empowering them to make choices about their learning, such as deciding what activities they want to engage in and how they want to approach them.

Additionally, we encourage their independence and self-help skills by involving them in the routine of preschool and engaging them in projects based on their interests.

CREATIVITY

Children learn to express themselves through various forms of creative outlets, including singing, dancing, rhyme and creating art. These activities enable them to explore their physical abilities and understand the world around them. Art, music, rhyme and dancing play an important role in child development. By engaging in these activities, children not only have fun but also learn essential life skills and enhance their overall well-being.

FRIENDSHIPS & SOCIAL SKILLS

Developing friendships is crucial in the process of growing up and a fundamental aspect of children's social and emotional growth. We take an active role in supporting your child in navigating their friendships and cultivating constructive social skills, which ultimately contribute to building their self-esteem.

LOCAL COMMUNITY EXCURSIONS & INCURSIONS

Our preschool arranges both local community excursions and incursions that offer children a wealth of learning experiences designed to foster a strong sense of identity, connection, and growth.

We have had the pleasure of hosting the NSW Police Rescue, NSW Fire and Rescue, Healthy Harold and Billy Booksie, and even went on a Mountains Explorers Bus trip to discover the wonders of the Great Blue Mountains with more opportunities to come.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

We encourage our families to come and volunteer or to take an active role in sharing their experiences with the children. To make this possible, we have many special occasions where we invite our parents and families to join us, to celebrate with us together.

SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM

Wentworth Falls Preschool's readiness program enhances children's cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and communication abilities. The program is customised to cater to individual needs, emphasising the significance of emotional regulation in learning. Children acquire essential skills such as independent toileting and playing with peers, fostering confidence and self-sufficiency. Our educators collaborate with families to lay a sturdy foundation for lifelong learning, enabling children to achieve their highest potential in school and beyond.

We have recently introduced a school library program that allows children from preschool to borrow books from Wentworth Falls Public School each fortnight. This program assists children to become familiar with the school learning environment.

Tips for preparing your child for preschool

Preparing for your child’s first day:

To ensure a smooth start, we recommend attending our orientation with a family member before your child's first day. This provides an opportunity to familiarise yourselves with our program, the room layout, and to discuss your child's needs with our educators. Contact the preschool to schedule visits. If your child is hesitant to attend, our educators can work with you to develop strategies. You may also take photos and we can assist you in creating a social story to share with your child at home.

The first day/week

The first day at a new service can be tough for both you and your child, as separation anxiety is common. Our experienced educators will guide you through this transition period and encourage you to stay as long as needed during the morning drop-off. There may be tears and tight hugs, but our educators offer genuine care and support for both children and families. We provide open communication and support through phone calls throughout the day. It's important to say goodbye to your child before leaving, as this builds trust and reassures them about their day. Rest assured, we will contact you if your child becomes distressed.

Saying Goodbye

To ensure a smooth departure, it's best for your child to be engaged in an activity before you leave. If your child struggles to settle, it's important to inform them when you're leaving to avoid any potential upset. This builds trust in both you and the educator who will comfort and update your child about their day. In the event of any distress, we will contact you promptly.

What do I need to bring?

To prepare your child for independence at school, ensure their backpack is labeled and large enough for all their belongings. Include spare clothes, a warm coat or waterproof jacket, a labeled drink bottle, and a protective sun hat. For meals, provide a plastic or metal lunch box with a lid that your child can open, and try to encourage healthy food choices while reducing waste by using reusable containers.
